I would normally tend to think it’s just sleezy campaign marketing for the industry, but in this case, the author is an industry expert, having assumed roles in the White House advising on taxes and economic strategies.

“Taxing e-cigarettes would threaten public health by penalizing a product that holds the promise of luring people away from the traditional cigarettes that have caused so much death and disease. That’s no excuse for taxing a product that can help people quit smoking, improve health outcomes and ultimately save lives.”
